Monitoring Events Status
With the Events Status tool, you can view the status of all unique events triggered in your system. In addition, you can view the events run for a specific symbol and export event status information to Excel.
Accessing the Events Status tool
You can access the Events Status tool from the following locations, depending on the setup of your system and the products you have purchased:
- Longview Close — The Events Status tool is available from the Consolidate module in the Administration category of the navigation pane under the Monitoring folder.
- Longview Dashboard — The Events Status tool is included with Longview Dashboard Designer as a system panel. Your System Administrator must add this panel to the appropriate Dashboard pages for you to access it.
- Longview Transfer Pricing — The Events Status tool is available from the Transfer Pricing module in the Administration category of the navigation pane under the Monitoring folder.
- Longview Tax — The Events Status tool is available from the Tax Provision module in the Administration category of the navigation pane under the Monitoring folder.
To access the Events Status tool in Close:
- From the Consolidate module, click on the Administration category.
- Expand the Monitoring folder.
- Click Events Status. The Events Status tool opens in the workspace.
To access the Events Status tool from Longview Dashboard:
- On your Longview Dashboard page, click the View Events Status link in the Events Status panel. The Events Status tool opens in a new window.
To access the Events Status tool from Longview Transfer Pricing:
- From the Transfer Pricing module, click on the Administration category.
- Expand the Monitoring folder.
- Click Events Status. The Events Status tool opens in the workspace.
To access the Events Status tool in Tax Provision:
- From the Tax Provision module, click on the Administration category.
- Expand the Monitoring folder.
- Click Events Status. The Events Status tool opens in the workspace.
Viewing Event status
You can use the Events Status tool to view the ID, status, Last run,Log file, Error file, History file and creation or completion time of all unique events that have been triggered in your system. You can also view the events run for a specific symbol.
To view event status:

Open the Events Status tool using the appropriate method.
- Review the following information:
- Event: The description of the event.
ID: The system-assigned ID of the event.

Status Indicator: The icon to the left of the event. The Status Indicator is a visual indication of the status of the event. Possible icons include the following:
- Green icon with check mark — The event status is Completed.
- Red icon with X — The event status is Error or Incomplete.
- Yellow icon with exclamation point — The event status is In Progress or Pending.

The Status Indicator icon in the header row is dependent on the status of all events in the list. Possible icons include the following:
- Green icon with check mark — The status of all events in the list is Completed.
- Red icon with X — Any events in the list have a status of Error or Incomplete.
- Yellow icon with exclamation point — Any events in the list have a status of In Progress or Pending, and no events in the list have a status of Error or Incomplete.

Last Run: The date and time that the event completed (if the event status is Completed) or the date and time that the event was created (if the event status is Error, In Progress, Incomplete, or Pending). The date and time appears in the following format:
yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss AM/PM
- If your system is configured to do so, you may be able to access log, error, and history files from the following columns:
Log File: Click the link adjacent to an event to open its log file.
Error File: Click the link adjacent to an event to open its error file.
History File: Click the link adjacent to an event to open its history file.
- To search the list by event description, type the characters that you want to search for in the Search Events field. Matching characters are highlighted in the Event column.
- Click Next to select the next event row containing highlighted characters.
- Click X to clear the Search Events field and remove all highlighting.
- To refresh the events list at any time, click Refresh. This updates the list to reflect events currently in the system and removes any highlighting applied by a search.
Note: Clicking Refresh does not return a sorted list to the default sort order.
Exporting Event status to Microsoft Excel
You can use the Events Status tool to export event status information to Microsoft Excel.
To export event status to Microsoft Excel:
- Open the Events Status tool using the appropriate method. For more information, see Accessing the Events Status tool.
- Click Export to Excel. A Save As dialog opens.
- Navigate to the location where you want the file to be saved.
- Type the name of the file you want the event status information to be exported to.
- Click Save. The file opens in Microsoft Excel.
Viewing related symbols
If your administrator has configured Data Area Monitoring, you can view the symbols modified by one or more batches that triggered the selected event.
If you are familiar with Longview Application Framework, these symbols correspond to the values stored by the E_dimension variables for the dimensions that are included in Data Area Monitoring Dimensions. For more information, see the Longview Server Manager Guide and the Longview Developer’s Guide.
Note: The related symbols correspond to the values stored by the E_dimension variables only when the event was not triggered using the Tax Calculations tool.
To view related symbols for an event:
- In the Events Status tool, select the row for the appropriate event.
- Click Related Symbols. The Related Symbols dialog opens.
- Review the following information in the header area:
ID: The ID of the event.
Rule ID: The rule ID for the event.

Status: The status of the event. Possible values are:
- Completed — The event completed successfully.
- Error — The event encountered an error and failed to complete.
- In Progress — The event is currently in progress.
- Incomplete — The event did not complete.
- Pending — The event is in the queue waiting to be processed.
Created: The creation date and time of the event, in the format yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss AM|PM.
Completed: The completion date and time of the event, in the format yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss AM|PM.
Description: The description of the event.
Elapsed Time: The total time for the event to complete, in the format hh:mm:ss.
- In the symbols list, review the symbols modified by the batch that triggered the event.
Note: Click Copy details to clipboard if you want to copy the event information to the Microsoft Office clipboard.
- When you are finished, click OK to return to the Events list.
Rerunning Tax Calculations from Events Status
You can use this feature to rerun tax calculations directly from events in the Events Status tool when an event is in error, without manually entering symbols or dimensions.
Note: This functionality is available only in Longview Tax and is accessible only through the Longview Client, not the standalone app.
Accessing Tax Calculations
The Tax Calculations tool can be opened from an event by right-clicking the event and selecting Rerun Tax Calculation from the context menu. The Tax Calculations tool opens with information prepopulated based on the selected event.
When opened from an event, the Tax Calculations tool is automatically opened with the event to rerun already selected, and the symbols automatically populated using the event’s related symbols for that event.
Symbols:
• Symbols are populated from the events status Related Symbols.
• Only symbols the user is authorized to access are displayed.
Dimensions:
• Dimensions are populated based on the events status related symbols and the Data Monitoring configuration.
• Only monitored dimensions are included in the Tax Calculations tool.
